One Path
One path to heaven. That is the Christian perspective. One path to heaven. New Age (Cosmic Humanism) would say that the one path is all paths, if not many. The one path is any path and thus really no path.
Alice Bailey - “I found that race after race of human beings had appeared and disappeared upon our planet and that each civilization and culture had seen humanity step forward a little further upon the path of return to God...whether it was presented in the Occident or in the Orient, or whether it had emerged when I, in my orthodox days, talked about the Christ and HIs Church I was really speaking of Christ and his planetary Hierarchy.”
Alice is saying that all religions are basically pointing in the same direction. To a return to God. To get there, enlightenment and change must take place. Guided by Djwhal Khul (as Alice Bailey, who is a leading figure of the New Age Movement, claims as being an ascended master or spiritually ascended being) Alice Bailey outlines what must take place.
“The old established rhythms, inherent in the old forms of religion, of politics and of the social order, must give place to newer ideals, to the synthetic understanding, and to the new order. The laws and modes of procedure which are characteristic of the New Age must supersede the old, and these will, in time, institute the new social order and the more inclusive regime.”
Sounds a little like she is pushing for a new ‘world order’. (see Synthesis Not Resolution). To this extent, Alice Bailey believes there are spiritual forces at work leading us toward that “New Age”. Forces like her Djwhal Khul (also known as the Tibetan).
“They are the agents of destiny, the creators of the new order and the initiators of the new civilization; they are destroyers of what must be destroyed before humanity can go forward along the Lighted Way.”
Who are these people? Here are some names Alice Bailey claims as ‘agents of destiny’.
“The men who inspired the initiating French revolution; the great conqueror Napoleon; Bismarck, the creator of a nation; Mussolini, the regenerator of his people; Hitler, who lifted a distressed people upon his shoulders; Lenin, the idealist; Stalin and Franco are all expressions of the Shamballa force and of certain little understood energies.”
The French Revolution (a bloody, atheistic, anarchic movement), two generals, two Fascists, and three Communists. This is Alice’s list of guiding lights? For Alice, to move forward is the path to God, and all of these people moved nations and the world.
New Age is about finding the God in all things and coming back to that ‘reality’. Hear Oprah Winfrey, a supporter of the New Age Movement.
“ God is in all things.”
“If God for you is still about a belief, then it is not truly God;”
“God is a feeling experience, not a believing experience.”
“One of the mistakes human beings make is believing there is only one way to live.”
“There are millions and millions of ways to God; there could not possibly be just one;”
The problem I find with Oprah’s ideas are that she cannot be consistent even within her own beliefs. On watching a special on the Holocaust, it was quite obvious to the viewer that Oprah was horrified and disgusted at what happened during World War II to the Jews. But can Oprah, according to her ideas about God, truly say that Hitler was wrong in doing such horrendous acts? Could she disagree with Alice Bailey that Hitler was an ‘agent of destiny’? I do not believe Oprah truly believes (or feels) this, but according to her statements above, Hitler is a way to God.
