Metaphysics
To be or not to be. That is Not the question. That is merely a natural outworking of the question. The real question be... Does my life have purpose? Is it worth living?
How you answer that determines your answer to Shakespeare’s famous quote. Your answer to those questions comes from even more fundamental questions. The Ultimate questions.
Who is God?
What is man?
What is truth?
Then comes:
Why am I here?
Which proffers:
What is my problem?
What is my solution?
These are metaphysical questions. Or all-encompassing questions. Questions that form a super-narrative, or an explanation for everything. All worldview’s, or faith beliefs (religions) have their own answers to these questions. Questions that must be answered on a personal level, but one that must be answered. For by it you find your self-worth, your purpose, and it flavors all else.
For instance, a philosopher that answered these questions as: There is no God, man was a natural accident, there is no truth outside of the natural world, which means there is no reason for life, no overriding problem and thus no solution to your life - will have trouble keeping his followers from killing themselves, for what does it matter.
Without the correct answers to these questions, life will fall in disrepair. Without any answers at all, life will be obliterated by the challenges of life, for these questions form a foundation for your beliefs. Without this foundation, a bit of wave will drastically and dramatically alter ones life and one will flee from one stance to the next with no foundation and no permanency or security.
Some fear closing their grips on any belief, for are we not to hold an open mind? But by keeping such a gaping mouth nothing is believed, and nothing is secure. One then replaces faith in the truth for belief in anything and everything, or nothing. And thus will fall for anything.
The metaphysical questions are the interpreters of all that you see and understand. It is the glasses through which you look, the filter from which you speak, and the aid from which you hear. Do you know your answers? Think about it. What is it that you believe? How will you answer these questions? Do you know the truth? For there must be truth out there. There must be an answer to the questions.
