Is It In There?
Homosexuality isn’t wrong.
God loves homosexuals.
The Bible never said anything about it.
That’s what I hear. The only truth in it is that God does love the homosexual. But the difference is that God hates homosexuality.
But take His word for it, not mine.
Romans 1: 16-27 - “The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles. Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen. Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.”
Do you hear it? At the beginning it can be pointed out that it is unnatural. “being clearly understood from what has been made.” A man and a woman have certain anatomical variances that fit just so that it ensues a certain, very specific purpose. Homosexuality is, in a purely biological standpoint, a perversion of that purpose.
But it is not just a biological perversion. It goes on to say that it is a shameful lust, that it is truly unnatural, but also insinuates that it is wrong, that it should not be done.
The ancient Jewish law of the Old Testament had the death penalty for homosexuality. God’s people were not to live in such a way.
Leviticus 20:13 - “‘If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.”
Leviticus 18:22 says that it is deplorable. Some versions take it a step further and call it an abomination.
Genesis 19 - “The two angels arrived at Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gateway of the city. When he saw them, he got up to meet them and bowed down with his face to the ground. “My lords,” he said, “please turn aside to your servant’s house. You can wash your feet and spend the night and then go on your way early in the morning.” “No,” they answered, “we will spend the night in the square.” But he insisted so strongly that they did go with him and entered his house. He prepared a meal for them, baking bread without yeast, and they ate. Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom—both young and old—surrounded the house. They called to Lot, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them.” Lot went outside to meet them and shut the door behind him and said, “No, my friends. Don’t do this wicked thing.”
This is the beginning of the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, where the two towns were completely destroyed by fire. This is not to say that homosexuality got Sodom and Gomorrah destroyed, for their sin was much greater, for Lot offered his own daughters to the men to keep them from his guest, but they still refused even that and only by divine intervention from the angels were the men of Sodom stopped from sexually assaulting the visitors. And Ezekiel 16:49 states one of Sodom’s other sins. “‘Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy.” So homosexuality was not the only thing that destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, but it was a sin. “Don’t do this wicked thing.”
Other verses would be Jude 6-7, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, 1 Timothy 1:9-11. There are others, but these will do.
The Bible has much to say against homosexuality. But there is hope in Christ. For He can change your life. He can set you free.
