Bulletproof George Washington
The first president of the United States of America. The great Revolutionary war general George Washington. No man in American history has been so highly esteemed as George Washington. His story is striking and emboldening. He fought in the French and Indian war, worked as a surveyor before that, was a farmer at heart, led the American troops during the Revolutionary War, declined when they tried to make him the Monarch and only reluctantly agreed to become president of the newly created United States of America under the constitution and after only two terms refused to take a third and stepped down to return to his adored home and plantation.
A man of great character and ability. Virtue above all others. Who else could gain such power and popularity only to reject it's greedy influence. Humble to a strength, this man defied all despotic tendencies that comes from great popularity.
Who did George Washington give as the rightful place of pride?
"No people can be bound to acknowledge and adore the invisible hand which conducts the affairs of men more than the people of the United States. Every step by which they have been advanced to the character of an independent nation seems to have been distinguished by some token of providential agency" ~ George Washington
Who did George Washington give the credit to?
"The hand of Providence has been so conspicuous in all this (the course of the war) that he must be worse than an infidel that lacks faith, and more wicked that has not gratitude to acknowledge his obligations; but it will be time enough for me to turn Preacher when my present appointment ceases" ~ George Washington
And again...
"While we are zealously performing the duties of good citizens and soldiers, we certainly ought not to be inattentive to the higher duties of religion. To the distinguished character of Patriot, it should be our highest Glory to laud the more distinguished Character of Christian. The signal instances of Providential goodness which we have experienced and which have now almost crowned our labors with complete success demand from us in a peculiar manner the warmest returns of gratitude and piety to the Supreme Author of all good." ~ George Washington.
I added this last quote to void all arguments to the contrary that may be attempted that George Washington was not indeed a Christian. They say, well George Washington never once spoke about Jesus Christ nor does he speak about God at all. Utter nonsense. He certainly does. Indeed he kept a daily prayer journal to Jesus Christ and the God of the Bible. Just in the quotes above he speaks of "the hand of Providence", and "the Supreme Author of all good." For in their day they had many phrases and words to describe God by. These were just a few of them. But do not be mistaken, simply because he did not refer to Jesus Christ or God in specific words as we tend to do today does not mean he is not talking about the same thing.
Indeed calling God in terms of "His Divine Providence" was very popular and quite fitting for that time period. For divine providence means to have support and help from on high. The stories of the revolutionary war are replete of such stories. I will give one.
Bulletproof George Washington.
The british soldiers were in America to fight the French/Indian alliance that had sprung up in America due to the fighting between England and France in Europe. George Washington, a young man at the time, was attache for the British army at the time. He delivered messages back and forth from the front to command and back again. The Indians fought in the bushes with guerilla tactics, which the British were not familiar with nor prepared for. They were practically massacred that first encounter. One of three attaches, George Washington was the only one left standing after the battle. And it was no small feat. After the battle George Washington wrote home to his brother:
"But by the all-powerful dispensation of Providence, I have been promoted beyond all human probability or expectation; for I had four bullets through my coat, and two horses shot under me, yet escaped unhurt, although death was leveling my companions on every side of me." ~ George Washington.
George Washington probably was unaware of just how great a danger he had been and how great that "dispensation of Providence" was. Later, an Indian who fought that battle would say of Washington:
"Washington was never born to be killed by a bullet! I had seventeen fair fires at him with my rifle, and after all could not bring him to the ground!"
This is brought to a higher amazement when it is recognized that the fighters that day were not mere Indians with stolen guns, but Indian warrior sharpshooters, not known to ever miss. Fifteen years after the battle George Washington was met by an Indian Chief who had been at the battle as well.
"I called to my young men and said, mark yon tall and dark warrior?... Quick, let your aim be certain and he dies. Our rifles were leved, rifles which, but for you, know not how to miss - 'twas all in vain, a power mightier far than we, shielded you."
But that old Indian Chief did not stop at that astounding declaration, he went on and said:
"...but ere I go, there is something bids me speak in the voice of prophecy: Listen! The Great Spirit protects that man and guides his destinies - he will become the chief of nations, and a people yet unborn will hail him as the founder of a mighty empire. I am come to pay homage to the man who is the particular favorite of Heaven, and who can never die in battle."
This prophecy rings true. And we know it has come true. For he is our founding father. The first and foremost of our highly esteemed Founding Fathers. The most renown, the highest held esteemed person in all of our history. The great George Washington, the first president of the United States of America.
George Washington - Not a Deist. Not an Atheist. Not to be ignored. One to be highly admired and esteemed.
What was his secret?
George Washington - "It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible."
Don't take these words lightly. He lived by them.
