The Immortal Lovers
God lives in eternity. Do we ever think about that? What does that mean? Christians believe in a life after death - the body dies but the soul remains. At the end of all things, we believe in a resurrection, a new heaven and a new earth in which Christ will reign as King, and we will live in His presence. And those who refuse Him will live in torment outside of His presence.
His presence. That may sound impersonal and distant, but it will be amazing. It will be good. It will leave us all awe-struck for all eternity! It will be perfection and beauty and peace.
But do we ever think about the implication of believing this? How do we live in light of this?
How do we live with eternity in view?
In point, How should we treat a stranger on the street if we believe that man to be immortal?
Not just the stranger on the street, but the bully, the friend, the co-worker, the sibling, the drunk, the pastor, the bosses boss, etc.
This is something that is hard to think about. When God looks at a person’s soul, He sees not only who that person is and was, but also who that person will be. For God knew the end before the beginning began. Therefore, we see a sinner - drunk, cursing, slandering, atheistic, lesbian, drug addict - today, but God sees that person’s whole life, including the future we cannot see.
Take it this way, many Christians remember the days when they were not saved. If someone was to see us on that day and judge us, we would be deemed as sinners not welcome in heaven. Not so today. So in the same way that should be kept in account when we see someone else living without God. See that person in light of eternity; she/he is not unforgivable. He/She is not unreachable. She/He will never be unlovable.
God knows His children. He knows who will be with Him in the end. And He loved them from before the very beginning of time. And He will continue to love them past the end of time. And we love Him for He first loved us. Keep that in mind.
Ask yourself today, tomorrow, and the next...
