Interpretational Prowess
The difference lies in the interpretation, so by what authority does the interpretation rely?
Most of the Bible was written in either Coin A Greek or Hebrew originally. The most reliable and trusted biblical manuscripts are in Greek or Hebrew. The ultimate argument against Jehovah's Witnesses version of the truth is their misuse of the ancient Greek language - not to their fault (...individuals coming to your door) but their flocks have been fooled by what they call the Society whose mouth-piece is "The Watch Tower". This faulty interpretation stems back to the Jehovah's Witnesses' founder, Charles Taze Russell, a "pastor" whose shady history is either glossed over or whose connection is cleverly forgotten by the Jehovah's Witnesses whenever convenient. His slick tongue beguiled many and whose tactics are still used today. Tactics such as slight of hand and semantic tricks that are hardly noticeable to those who don't know Coin A Greek, but heinous errors to those who do. Small but powerful changes that allow the Jehovah's Witnesses to rationalize their reinterpretation of the biblical texts.
Revisions such as John 1:1. It does not say, according to the Jehovah's Witnesses, that the Word is God (meaning Jesus Christ), but that the Word is a god. Which means Jesus is not God himself, but is like a god. At least, that is their interpretation by adding to the original text. Though... I'm not sure how this addition helps, for if they call Jesus a god, is that not idolatry? For there is only one God...
Many examples of mishandled interpretations of the texts exist, such as the Jehovah's Witnesses treatment of the word parousia to mean "presence" instead of "coming" or "arrival" to rationalize their belief that Jesus rose an ephemeral spirit and not in physical form.
It's actually quite smart, for how many Christians can argue against an interpretation of the original Greek? And perhaps that is why it is so sinister... Those who promote the errors know no better, and the hearers are typically hopeless against it.
But the Truth shall set us free - so seek the Truth!
