I must be ME
It is contamination. Do not interfere with someone else’s culture. A culture is something that must be protected.
I am sorry. That is about the dumbest thing I have ever heard.
What is your culture? It is your religion, your background, your traditions, your preferences, etc.
What is culture? It is a group of people who share a common personal culture. Confused? That is actually quite natural. Not very many people can succinctly describe just what culture is.
So how is culture formed? May sound like a silly question, but a group of like-minded people come together and form traditions, common likes and dislikes, and a culture is formed. How does culture get contaminated?
It can’t.
It is argued that an established culture can be contaminated by an outsider who comes in and changes things up for that culture. But cultures are not isolated creatures. They are interactive, ever changing concepts. Even without outside interference, a culture will change dramatically and drastically from one generation to the next.
But that is not “politically correct.” But this is actually grounds for a similar line of thought that resides in so many in today’s culture that you must be true to yourself.
Yes. Be true to yourself, don’t be someone else that you are not, but this is not in seclusion to the ability to change yourself.
This mantra of being true to yourself has become a restriction when it should be a freedom. Instead of being free and confident, it has imprisoned us to stagnation. Never changing.
There is a balance in all things! Being true to yourself is not a restriction to change. It is NOT treacherous to yourself to change yourself. I am not the liar I used to be and Thank God! No. Being true to yourself means you don’t have to be someone you are not. You can be confident in who you are, at the same time we can improve ourselves. It is not about perfection, but direction. And we must move in that direction of improvement, for we are not perfect. Not for self-righteous smug reasons, but to truly be better than we were.
Change for the better is possible. Perfection may not be reachable, but that is not the point. The point is to be the best we can be. As ourselves. A better self. But still, ourselves. Don’t give up on yourself. Never, Never Never, never give up on yourself. Ever.
