Homosexuality
What do you say when you disagree with something someone close to you does when that which that someone does is something so intimate and so closely tied to self-worth and self-identity that that person and that something is inextricably bound together?
There are whole sections of the Bible that cannot be read aloud in certain countries because it is considered hate speech towards homosexuals. Many Christians ignore these passages and believe that their concept of God does not allow for such an egregious judgementalism. Others say that if God is against homosexuality then that is a God that they want absolutely no part of. Why is this subject so polarizing?
I am a male. That is what sex I am. It is part of my identity. I am a man.
Why is the subject so polarizing? Because Homosexuality is part of an identity. It is where they define family and where family is, there is love. Take that away and you are taking away family, you are taking away love. You are demeaning who they are as a person.
I do disagree with the lifestyle but there is one thing that I cannot disagree with. The homosexual community in many occasions do a better job of taking care of their own than the church does.
Why do people run to the homosexual lifestyle? There are many reasons, but most homosexuals have troubled childhoods, or have had sexual abuse at a young age. The majority of homosexuals are searching for love and acceptance. Many times, other homosexuals are the only ones who will listen.
Let me speak to the church for a minute. I know that many of you hate homosexuality. I also hate the sin. But many of you hate homosexuals. I cannot. Homosexuality is a sin as any other. You are a sinner. They are a sinner. You are forgiven. They are not yet. Get over the form of the sin and HELP THEM! They are searching for love. Are we really going to be that stupid and respond by hating them? Yeah. That will change their minds. Show them a different way. A better way. That is how you reach them. Bring them closer to God’s love, not further away.
Homosexuals are a people deeply misunderstood. Instead of seeing someone who needs love and acceptance, when people here the word homosexual, most react without thinking. Most react with a - don’t come on to me - mentality. It is a fear that is for the most part irrational. Women don’t look at heterosexual men and the first thing think - don’t come on to me - so why should that be our first thought with homosexuals. And yes, there are cases when homosexuals have done things, but so have heterosexuals.
Bottom line is, homosexuals are people who are searching for love. There is a better way that they need to see. Christians are the only one’s who can show them this.
