Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormonism)
A great force for spreading the good news of Jesus, unfortunately, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, better known as Mormons, teach very conflicting doctrines from that of the Bible.
Some of these difference are hidden, even from some of their initiates. For instance, the Mormon church tries to skirt around certain teaching until a believer is fully committed to Mormonism. Beliefs such as polytheism. The teachings of Mormon prophets and religious texts actually teach that anyone can become a god of sorts. It teaches that Jesus and Satan were brothers, and that God has a mostly physical body, not spiritual. It teaches there are other planets that are inhabited by other gods or goddesses and that it is possible for you to become the god of a planet yourself. It likewise is infamous for it’s former doctrine of polygamy. It should be noted that most of the Mormon Church today no longer supports polygamy, despite it’s founder’s beliefs on the subject.
Mormons are taught strict doctrine. They are all expected to go on missionary trips at least once in their lifetime, and are well prepared for such trips by the church before going. Most of them are taught to not question the church or it’s doctrine. Most of them also teach that the Bible is accurate only so long as it is translated correctly. There is much controversy over correct translation of the biblical text. The Mormons also have extra-biblical sacred writings - “The Book of Mormon”, “Doctrine and Covenants”, and The Pearl of Great Price” which are typically hailed at the same level as biblical truth.
Although these differences in belief from most Christian denominations may seem minor in impact to the importance of Jesus, but the implications of their beliefs are far reaching. In fact, in the words of many of the Mormon leadership, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the only true church of Christ. All other denominations will be relegated to a lower level in heaven.
That’s correct, the Mormons actually don’t believe in hell, but believe there are levels in heaven. The lowest levels reserved for non-believers and the highest levels reserved for Mormons and those Mormons who have transcended to become god’s themselves who will be given their own worlds to reign over.
From history books, most people may remember that the Mormons were originally persecuted and so they then moved to the west to found Salt Lake City, in Utah. What most people do not know is what the Mormons believe, one of the reasons why they were persecuted by their fellow man.
I hope from consequent articles, it will become clear why Mormon doctrine is deceptively different, their translation skewed, their beliefs strange, and their faith contradictory. They are great people, please do not get me wrong. Their good will and love for their fellow man is outstanding. They do a lot of good. It is only, I believe, that they are greatly misinformed.
