Secular Humanism
Secular Humanism is a phrase that coddles many different perspectives, and yet the tenants of what we call secular humanism is specific enough to warrant the Supreme Court of the United States to declare it to be an official religion.
Many people have heard of the Humanist Manifestos, but how many actually know what they are all about? What is secular humanism? Secular humanism is at heart a belief system that begins with atheism. Secular humanism has a famous calling card. “God is dead.” We are alone in the universe. There is nothing magical about you. There is no such thing as a soul, spirit, miracles, or the mind. Emotions, Love, Thoughts, these are simply chemical reactions within your brain. Everything is caused. There is no such thing as free will.
Life is meaningless, there is no rhyme or reason to it, we were formed by chance (evolution), by a mindless chance reaction. There is no such thing as truth, morality, or purpose aside from that which we make for ourselves. Humans are the top of the food chain, the masterpiece of evolution, and as such should make the most of ourselves. We determine our purpose, we determine our destiny. This life is all we have and We should live it to the full. Self-actualization is the highest good in the land. Anything that hinders your own self fulfillment Is evil.
When you ask a dead man what happens after you die, he says nothing.
There is no heaven, there is no hell, there is nothing outside of the physical world. When you die, you become worm food. You cease to exist. Make the most of it while you can.
Is this really a religion? Religion is simply a set of beliefs, so yes it is, and it has grown powerful in America over the years, perhaps behind the scenes but powerful none-the-less.
What does the Humanist worldview look like?
Theology - Atheism (God is dead)
Philosophy - Naturalism (Only the physical world exists)
Ethics - Relativism (There is no moral absolute)
Biology - Evolution (We were created by chance)
Psychology - Self-Actualization (Selfishness is the highest good)
Sociology - Non-Traditional Family (Family is who your friends are)
Law - Positive Law (State determines what the law is)
Politics - Globalism (World government)
Economy - Socialism (Equalized and controlled by the government)
History - Historical Revisionism (History is written/re-written by the victors)
To the big questions of life, the Secular Humanists answer:
Who is God? There is no God.
Who is man? Perfectible.
How did we get here? By chance.
What is man’s purpose? We have no purpose. Make up your own.
